Photo of Girls' Grammar School.
The photograph submitted by Denis which is in four sections is extremely difficult to view due to the inability to enlarge them. If anyone wishes to see it in a more clear form then this can be done by logging on to the Keighley Boys' Grammar School site and viewing the Panorama section. These can be enlarged without any dificulty. I have mentioned this to Denis before getting in touch with you. Please erase this message from the Sutton village website if you decide to do anything about it.

Hi Alan. The scans are displayed as I received them, apart from straightening them up a bit - they are what they are!

The panorama scans on the KBGS site are much higher resolution, hence they can be "enlarged".

Scrub the images I sent Paul. I'll re submit them at a higher resolution [I think I can do that.

Hi Denis, thanks for the high resolution scans - I've added them to the page, you can click each smaller version to view the enlarged version.

That should satisfy even the most demanding viewer don't you think? Now let's see how many are are recognised as 'local lasses'. Brenda Grime should be able to help out.

Hi folks
Denis - I think you may know more of the names than I - or at least between you and Alan most certainly you do.
I note that on the 3rd photo - not only do I appear, Brenda Holmes, Rita Lund(Barsby) plus a few names I remember but not necessarily Suttoners but also Audrey Jones - Mrs Denis Pickles (though sadly I understand she is no longer with us)

and Mrs Alan Pickles - Pauline Judson, two folks who have just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary I understand...

I will work on my memory banks to see who I can remember and name.

Hello There,
I am alittle younger than you guys but I think I can make out the following on the Girls Grammar School 1951 photos:
Page 1 also on 2 could include Joan Hargreaves on 4th Row from back towards middle on page 1 and to the very left on page 2
Also on page to on the third row from back is Muriel Lowe (towrads the middle)

Finally on page 3 on next to back row could be Rita Overend (face partially hidden)

All these girls had connections with the Sutton Baptist Church.

Please check them out to see if you concur

I was about to confirm Joan Hargreaves but you beat me to it Maurice. -
Picture 2 - - 2nd row 8 from the left is Enid Foster along from her, a teacher, is Ruth Midgley. Back row 6 from left is Dorothy Bottomley(Thompson) and at the right hand side 2nd from back is Eleanor Buck whose father was the Sutton Baptist Minister at the time - Muriel Lowe on this photo has already been identified.
Picture 3 - - 2nd row to the right of the school name and next to Nancy Heaton is me and 5 long is Rita Gunning(Morris) whilst not from Sutton she lived at the top of the road out of Eastburn and became well known as a singer. Back row, 5 from left is Rita Lund (Barsby) and in front of her is Mrs Denis Pickles. 5th row above the centre of the school name is Brenda Holmes and to the right of the photo and behind her is Mrs Aan Pickles. 3rd row from the back and directly above the L of Keighley is one of the Wagstaff twins - I am not sure which but guessing Margaret.
Picture 4 - - 2nd row, 5 from the left is Jane Walker and 6 further along - Olga ??

A few names to be going on with and I don't know many of their married names - many familiar faces but my recall of names is ratchit. If someone else could add more it would be great.

It's Olga Towell and her sister Margaret also features. She's on the next to the back row a little to the left of Dorothy Bottomley. The Towells lived next door to us in Bent Lane.
Dorothy Preston from Sutton Fields is 8 from the right back row.
Extreme left, seated, is Doreen Horne who lived in Town Hall Square Crosshills. She attended Sutton Council school and always came top of the class.
Squatting on the front row immediatelt above the double OO in School, is a girl called MacHenry and I do believe that on the second row2nd from the right is a partly obscured Audrey MacWhinney.
Prefect Mary Baker sits in her white blouse 9 from the right. I was once briefly engaged to Mary when we were in Standard 1 at the Council School - I never did dare tell my mother!
And for those of you who have colour sets, the coy looking girl with the flaming red hair on the next to the back row 4 to the left of my wife, is Betty Parker.
12 in from the extreme right, on the next to the back row is Pamela Craven from Park Avenue.
Pity we can't tag these isn't it?

Brenda and Denis,
Brenda the teacher is Jean Midgley, Ruth taught at Holycroft School. I know they are twins but they are not identical. The Wagstaff twins are though so I can understand the guess at Margaret.
Denis, the McHenry girl is Janet, sister of Duncan. He hasn't been in touch with the forum for some time, I wonder if he is O.K. He emigrated to Lancashire so might be out of touch because of that. She worked for Social Services in Bradford and used to visit a children's home near to where I used to live. Have not seen her for thirty years plus. Doesn't time fly.
