Unknown photos of local Great War servicemen - help requested to identify them
Hi folks, I received the following message from Andy Wade who runs the ‘Men of Worth’ project at Keighley. Apart from the 4 Sutton casualties he has highlighted, I haven’t been able to positively identify any of the other men. They may be from Sutton or surrounding villages, survivors or casualties of the Great War. It’s a long shot but if anybody is able to identify any of the other men that would be awesome. Thanks. Here’s Andy’s shortened message:

“A friend came to me with about twenty-odd photo postcards that he's been shown at a house he was working at, and the owner has kindly allowed me to scan them all. Having gone through them I have positively identified that four of them are known Sutton men. I have included the CPGW images which I used to check to make sure I had the right men and you can see they're all versions of the same photographs. I did go through the entire CPGW book for possible matches but it's possible I may have missed one or two. It's possible some are local to Sutton or from the surrounding area at least, but I think as many people as possible need to see these images to be in with a chance of recognising some of them. I have also sent this link to John Richardson of the CPGW website and he's going to go through them. Here's the link which can be copied and pasted into the search browser”

Hi Andrew, hope all is well with you. I have enjoyed looking through the wonderful old photographs and think the man in the gown could possibly be Harold Broughton. The headmaster of the Church School who terrified me for years. Good luck with identifying them.

That's a fantastic lead Yvonne, especially as the back of the card is signed Yours Sincerely, Harold.

Thank you so much for taking the time to check through the images. I'll pass your message on to Andy Wade in Keighley ,-)
