Jack Phillips
Jack Phillips, my Uncle, who was very proud of being born and raised in Sutton, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010 at the age of 86. He was the last of the six Phillips children. He lived in Silsden for a good part of his life and later moved to Gargrave. He was a kind and gentle man and will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.

I remember Jack living with his mother at 5 Holmfield prior to him getting
married, as my grandparents lived next door. Strangely enough I was asked
by builders working at the house some time ago if I knew anyone by the name
of Phillips living there. I made enquiries without success & the last time I spoke
to him he was living in Silsden but could find nobody there who knew of his
whereabouts. The builder had found a 1st world war medal in the walls of the
house & had been trying to trace anyone by the name of Phillips on various
websites for some time. I assume it would have been Jack's grandad's.
I have just been to see the builder , but unfortunately he said since he found
the medal he had had nothing but bad luck, so he put it back where he found
it and plastered over it so it is now hidden in the walls of 5 Holmfield.
I would like to say how sorry I am to hear of his death, he was a kind gentleman
as you rightly say

How very interesting. The medal would probably have been for Jack's Dad, George Phillips, who was my paternal grandfather. Jack's older brother Frank, was my Dad. I will pass this information on to Jack's wife, Jean. who lives in Gargrave.

Hi Neil. What a lot of trouble you have gone to, in trying to locate firstly the 'Phillips' from Holmfield and then again to locate the builder after reading this forum. That's what village good neighbours is all about isn't it? Well done!
