New anti-spam measures on the forum
Since the start of 2008 there have been 1080 messages posted to the forum. Unfortunately I've had to reject 940 of them as their content has been entirely inappropriate for viewing on a village website.

In an effort to reduce the number of posts of this type, commonly referred to as "spam", I've added a security code feature when posting messages. A four digit number is displayed above the "Send" button and you must type the four digits into a box before sending your message. If the codes do not match the message will be ignored.

Hi Paul, just curious to know how the anti-spam measures are working.

Hopefully your workload in sifting through the trash to find the treasure has been drastically reduced.

Hi Andrew - adding the security code has (so far) solved the problem. Spam posts are still being submitted but, as they don't contain a valid security code, they don't even make it onto the database. I've already more than saved the time it took to set up the feature.
