New e-mail scam attempt
Just a quick note to let you all know about a new e-mail scam. It claims to be from television licensing and says it will pay you a rebate - in my case it was £84.06 - if you let them have your bank details to send it to. With me they were wasting their time as I don't have a television and have never had a licence to get a rebate on!

Gosh, Hazel - you really don't know what you're missing. Here's a few:
Strictly Spray Tan,
Non-celebrity we don't want you out of there,
Some Britons have no talent,
Master Cake Off,
Totally unbelievable CoroEmmerSquare anxt,
AntonDeck (where on the ship is that?),
Would you believe there are many others.
Needless to say, I've never watched any of them - well perhaps for 5 minutes many years ago in disbelief!

Wow, Julian - however have I managed without seeing all those wonderful programmes? I'm almost tempted to go out and buy a television - lol! Though not watching Emmerdale (or Emmerdale Farm as it was then!) caused me one of the most embarrassing moments of my life...

It was pre-Christmas 1978 and I had a new book out. I was living in Morley at the time and the manager of the newsagents/bookshop in town invited me and Fraser Hines (Joe Sugden) along to her late night opening. It was a dreadful night - fog and rain - and hers was the only shop open. I didn't watch Emmerdale, so had very little conversation with Fraser Hines, and of course he didn't know who I was.

Expecting crowds of people, the manager had poured out two bottles' worth of sherry, before she realised no one was going to turn up. (I think she'd forgotten to advertise it!!) I was driving, as was Fraser Hines, so neither of us was drinking - so the manager started drinking on her own. After about an hour - by which time she was well merry and probably didn't notice - Fraser Hines and I decided to call it a day and sneaked off to our respective homes. I laugh about it now, but it didn't seem so funny at the time...
