Cat found, possibly missing
I have noticed a cat on Crofters Mill/Bridge Road/Mill Street area a few times over the last few weeks and noted that it seemed to be quite thin. It has quite distinctive markings - mainly white but with brown/grey patches on its back and a brown/grey tail. It has a white head but has a small brown/grey patch behind its right ear and in the centre of its head. I have managed to feed it twice and both times it was clearly desperate to eat. If I see it again and can catch it, I'm planning on trying to get it to the vets to check for a microchip but if anybody knows of somebody who is missing a cat with this description, it would be worth having a look around this area. Please let me know if this sounds like your cat and you are missing it and I'll let you know if it appears again. Thank you!

This sounds very much like the little cat that visited us yesterday. She came back about ten o'clock last night and so I found a sturdy cardboard box and an old woolly jumper and made her a cosy shelter in the garden. She climbed straight in and settled down for the night. She was still there this morning and so I fed her (again!), but then she left early afternoon and hasn't been back so far, though I've left the shelter and a bowl of water out for her. If it is the same cat, then she's used to being handled and doesn't offer any violence - though her growl would terrify a Rottweiler! Hope someone recognises her, but I've a feeling she's just gone on the tramp and might not be from Sutton.

Hi, I did see your post and wondered if it was the same one but this one didn't have any ginger on it and there was only a small area of its head that wasn't white. I'm concerned that it may have been abandoned, this one also looked like it had been living out for a while, possibly there could be two cats from the same family? I have put photos on the facebook group "Missing/Lost and found in Skipton and surrounding areas"

Really hope I can get it back to its owner or find a home for it. If I can get it to the vets I'll see what they suggest.

Hi Joanne - I've just looked at your photos on Facebook and it's definitely a different cat from the one that visited me. "Yours" has a lot more (and bigger) coloured patches than "mine", but they could well be related. If "mine" comes back and looks like she might stay around, I'll put a cat kennel in the garden so that she can come and go as it likes, as she does look as if she's been out for a long time.

Hi, I'm fairly confident I found the cat you have been feeding this afternoon. (I have posted photos to the same facebook page again and both have been shared by the Cats Protection).

It was in even worse condition than the cat I fed, very very thin and it seemed to be wet too so not sure what happened there. Anyway it was quite happy to follow me in and was hungry and very thirsty. It is currently at Ashlands vets in Glusburn. They did some blood tests and said she had a bad thyroid problem and they think it would be kinder to put her to sleep. They are going to look after her for the next 48 hours just to give the owner chance to come forward. I'll keep and eye out for the other cat and get that one checked out too if I can catch it. Poor things :-(

I did wonder if that was what was wrong with her, Joanne - either that or her kidneys packing up - and when she disappeared yesterday afternoon and didn't come back, I wondered if she'd gone away to die quietly as animals often do. At least we've both done our best and given her some comfort and we know she's being looked after now, even though the outcome doesn't look good...Hope you can catch the other one and that it has a better prognosis...

Hi Hazel,

Some good news! The cat is back home with its owner :) I posted photos on a few facebook pages, luckily word got back to her and she has been collected from the vets.

It seems both cats belong to her and she actually lives near me. I've been informed by the owner that the one you were feeding is thin due to its thyroid problem and the other one is thin due to eating the medication meant for the other cat. Apparently the one you were feeding is not supposed to be out but has escaped a few times recently. The other one wasn't actually missing. A happy ending anyway!

That's really good news, Joanne. She's certainly a spirited little cat - you should have heard her growl at my cat (who is about four times her size!) when he approached the bed I'd made for her in the garden. Mind you, he had bowled her over the day before - on the other hand, she was stealing his breakfast at the time! Let's hope she decides to stay at home now, though cats do like to wander when the weather's so good.
