Congratulations to Drystone Radio
Drystone Radio has been granted a five year Community Radio Licence, press release below...

==========
Radio listeners in South Craven and the Yorkshire Dales will soon be able to tune in to the latest news and views from their local communities.

Cowling-based Drystone Community Radio has been broadcasting over the internet since 2004. Now, after three years of hard work, listeners will also be able to keep in touch through the airwaves.

'The news that Ofcom has granted us a broadcast licence means that we can move ahead with confidence,' says founder David Adams. 'This is an exciting time and we are now getting ready for the big day when we go live.'

The FM broadcast licence will enable Drystone Radio to be on air in early 2008. Programmes will also be made available on the internet at the same time, so that current listeners, who live as far away as Canada and Australia, are also kept in the loop.

In the meantime, the producers are keen to hear from any aspiring broadcasters because 20 more presenters will be needed when the station goes on air. Drystone Radio is staffed entirely by volunteers and no previous experience is necessary.

To make the transition to live broadcasting easier, the internet schedule will first be expanded and will include outside broadcasts, sports coverage and round table discussions.

The team also wants to hear people's thoughts and ideas about the future programme content in order to provide a service that best meets community needs. Drystone Radio is also keen to promote local good causes and talent and is able to provide a showcase for local bands and musicians.

Anyone wishing to find out more about being a community radio presenter, or who would like to have a say in shaping the station's output, should contact Brian Cooke on (01535) 635392 or email@drystoneradio.com
