SVC "Elvis"night
I must congratulate SVC's "Elvis" night. It was one of the best nights entertainment I've had in a long time. Apart from looking vaguely like Elvis & performing the odd Elvis tune he was, well, a bit rubbish. In fact so rubbish he was hilarious. I haven't laughed so much in ages (& I wasn't the only one by a long chalk!). It was along the lines of the X-Factor worst auditions show. Blesh him, he gave it his all but half way through his first act I could barely here him for (just about) everyone chatting. It would have been embarrassing if it wasn't so funny. I've been to a good number of SVC's tribute nights & I've never witnessed that before (to be fair the acts in the past have been top drawer). My missus nipped to the ladies, at one point (well several points actually but I won't go into that) & a gaggle of patrons were considering going to the pub instead. The comments I heard in the gents were non too complimentary either. The crowning glory was when (I can kill a disco) David H-Y asked if we wanted him back for an encore & half the place screamed "NO!!". Classic. Not that it stopped him, mind.
In the cold light of Sunday morning's hang-over I had to feel a little sorry for SVC as they, as always put a cracking "do". The hall was decorated out in Americana & the volunteer staff worked like slaves all evening long, so well done & a big THANK YOU, but please don't ask "Elvis" back..........not yet anyway as I don't think my sides could take it.

PS I was a little dissappointed with the food. Not the quality but the choice. Although hamburgers are very much associated with "The King" I would have much preferred deep fried banana sandwiches. Mind you there is only one sit down loo in the gents so there would have been quite a queue for the authentic "heart attack on the bog" afterwards.

John R - your write-up was hilarious, thanking you for making me laugh so much first thing on a Monday morning!

PS - I would like to make it clear that I am laughing purely at the write-up and not at the Village Committee, who work extremely hard at staging these events and do a wonderful job :-)

Hi Dawn. I'm glad you appreciated my comments. Watch out Knights, I'm-a-coming for your job. Seriously, I fully subscribe to your latter comment. SVC do work very hard, all year round & do not receive the recognition they deserve.

Hi all. just to add further to the above comments, the "Elvis" tribute singer performed 2 or 3 elvis songs in the first half, followed by a number of songs from various other artists, and one of the members of our party came out with the classic comment, "Elvis has left the building....." By the end of the night i was beginning to wish he had, but in hindsight I too would not have had as big a laugh as I have had for ages. I must also add too that the SVC did an absolutely fantastic job with the event, as always, and my congratulations go to them as well as the many volunteers who worked really hard all night!! Well done!
