Local Defence Volunteers
Does anyone out there have any infomation for the Sutton Division LDV's from WW11, my father Ronald Smith was one of them and I would like to know more of what they got up to?

Elaine there's a picture in the gallery 'Air Raid Wardens circa 1940' which was posted in Feb 2008. This shows lots of volunteers from Sutton, all of them wearing their ‘Air Raid Precautions’ badge and many donning medals from WW1 service. There’s a Mr Smith stood on the back row so don’t know if he’s related to you.

I think their involvement would have been limited to checking that that the black-out across the village was strictly enforced and they obviously did a good job. Nelson St in Bradford copped a few bombs and the armament ‘dump’ at Steeton was on the German’s hit list, but they could never find it. Pretty sure they painted the roof blue to make it look like a reservoir from the air.
