Forth coming visit UK.
Hi all.
Just been able to organise my brother Allan to place his wife in a rest home and come up for a week in Yorkshire (his first break since my last visit in 2001/2), and was wondering if any one on the web knows of a holiday cottage etc we could rent for a period from 8/9th Sept. to 4/5th Oct in the area. We then drive south and do a bit more visiting before flying out on the 11th. Oct. I fly in on the 6th and my wife arrives on the 16th. We will spend most of the time in or around Sutton/Skipton catching up etc. If you are able to help Paul will give you my email.

David,

My son John, who lives in Cambridgeshire rents a place in Sutton for his annual visits. He speaks highly of it. When you lived in Sutton it was a farm up West Lane just above the reservoir. The name of it escapes me at present but I know that Sheila Browse lived there. The footpath to the Clough goes through the yard. I'll get details for you if you still haven't got fixed up. Remember me to Allan.

Hi Denis - I think you're referring to Bankfoot Farm Holiday Cottage, which I'd thought of too and your brother Alan also emailed me about - but checking availability on-line showed it to be booked for two weeks of September.

Hi Denis and Paul,
I checked that out and saw the Bookings to be not in our favour. However we have decided to go to B&B in Skipton if nothing comes up soon. I will give Allan you regards Denis. How far and how long travel to Denis land?

Bankfoot Farm! Aye , that's the place! Great minds think alike David. Sorry the place is booked when you'll be in the UK in September. I live down in Norfolk - about a 170 mile drive from Sutton - it used to take about 3.5 hours but now, since I have done the course for naughty speeding drivers, it takes a little longer. Have you thought about going along to the Keighley Boys' Grammar School Re-union on Friday September 21st? I think Alan is an OB - not sure about you though. I'll expect to be going along again. I usually manage to see someone I haven't spoken to for maybe 60 years!

Hi Denis,
I was actually thinking of the time and distance from Gloucester to your place in Norfolk. Allan is just an older boy than me! Re re-union, we, but not Allan will be in Skipton somewhere at that time. Allan has limited time available away. Last time he had a break/holiday was when we were over last in 2001-2002!!!!!!!!!! I'm afraid Mollie is a great burdon for him at his age. I think I'm doing well getting him up't north for a week. I gather it's very costly to have her placed in care. If you leave your contacts on my email, which I think you have. (If not Paul will give you it) We definately get in touch. Any way we will be chatting before Sept. on here.
My cousin John said that the Crag farm House was now permanly rented so no good there. I have negotiated a B&B rate in Skipton but not secured it yet. It should be less trouble for two owd fellas to handle, yet I must admit I'm a pretty handy cook!!

Hi Denis.
Spoke to Allan tonight and he said that he hadn't heard from you this last two Xmases thought you might have gone up "there". I assured him that would be most unlikely anyway!!!! He informed me we will be going up north via Wales and then Yorks and back via Whitby, Staithes and could be Norfolk????
Will keepin touch.

Surprising what comes to light on this website. You and I both are surprised John, Both being former employees of the law, should we now associate with him?
I went one better, I was convicted of careless driving back in the early sixties and fined £15. I still have my licence with the endorsement.
Look what you have started again David by saying that you are coming to town.
Alan.

Hi all,
Just a little update on my visit to Sutton etc. Allan and myself (the two Grumpy old men) are staying in Skipton at the Town house B&B 10-13th Sept. and and Sally and I have rented a cottage up behind Cowling from 18th- 28th Sept. So if you want to leave hope this gives you enough warning!!! JUST JOKING! There are a lot of people I would love to meet but I realise this isn't like to happen as I would like it to. All the best.

Hi Andrew,
They were off the Ellers road. We visited them when last time we were over in 2001/2 The Feathers have owned it since 1945 so it would be the one you referred to.

Paul,
I seem to remember a message from Wendy Feather some time ago. I tried the old email I had but it bounced? Do you have any record?

Hi Wendy, thanks for the message from Gary. I well remember him from our school days along with his 2 sisters Julie & Karen. Is Gary still farming?

Not entirely sure if I know you or not Wendy, how are you related to Gary?

Also I was wondering (OK this is the third straight question in a row which hopefully doesn't constitute an interrogation!), do you happen to know who Hartley Feather was? He was born at either Sutton or Kildwick around 1883 and served during the Great War. His dad was called Thomas, his mum Elisabeth and he had a brother called Willie. A bit of a long shot but perhaps he was your grandfather or some other relative – OK no more questions!

David sorry for hijacking your ‘upcoming visit to the UK’ thread, sometimes we have to take opportunities when they arise! Hope the holiday goes well and to plan :-)

Hi Andrew and all,
As I said earlier have just been to the service at Sutton, and this lovely white haired lady introduced her self to me Andrew. Gee she looks like her Mum. Said to say hello to you.
I'm sorry to see the lack of people there (about 25-30).
Remember Eric Brooks he was there also Peter Barsby.

Wendy,
Just because I had a couple of your biscuits, doesn't mean you can't answer my Mail requesting your phone no so we can come up and have another one or two.
Promise I will only have two!!!!!

Thanks David, I thought it would be Betty you were referring to. Of course she is lovely, she comes from good Monkhouse stock!
