Forgive my naivety but does the bonfire evening cost anything to attend?

It's free Baz, but everyone is asked to make a donation on the gate.

I believe the donations last year almost exactly covered the cost of the event.

We're going (if I can persuade Mrs Sherby to overcome her fear of fireworks).

See you there!!

I've not been told the time the fire will be lit or the time the fireworks display will start. Judging of the Guys is at 5.30pm and the fire is usually lit about half an hour after that.

Hi Amy and Graham

I've forwarded your comments to David Harrison-Young, Chairman of the Village Committee. He will respond to you both directly.

The issue of sparklers isw always a hot topic, and thats half the problem. \when spent people stick them in the ground, and children could touch the red hot ends, fall on them, spear their foot, and it must be remembered that sheep graze in this field at other times. For these reasons, previous bonfires held in our park also prohibited sparklers.(10" pieces of wire pushed into the ground would not have been appreciated by the young soccer players of Sutton Rascals). My very best wishes to Sutton Village Committee on yet another great event. Well done all involved, your efforts are greatly appreciated. Roll on the Chrstmas lights.

(aka Mr PA Man) I realise that it might seem we were heavy handed about the sparklers (which are after all a type of firework) - HOWEVER it is a condition of our insurance that other people must not bring their own fireworks of any description onto the site/field and we are not allowed to run the event without insurance. There is always the problem then of older children wanting to bring other, bigger fireworks. Also for there is the safety reasons mentioned above by Steve Place.
We appreciate the many positive comments that have been made, and appeal again for volunteers to help on the day before, the day of, and the day after the event.

I would agree with what Steve Place says, as a previous organiser of the bonfire in the park, sparklers and own fireworks do cause more of a problem than not so I would ask all of you out there to remember that people such as the current Village Committee and the previous ones do what they do to provide a facility where you can bring your children to celebrate bonfire night in a controlled environment, regretfully that does mean banning the use of sparklers and the like. Kimbolton firework specialists provided an excellent display - well done to them and the SVC.

I'd like to just say thanks to all those involved in the making of the bonfire night held in sutton on the 2nd, i know that a few volunteers spent a couple of days preparing for this event giving up there time, and i know there were lots of comments about people setting a bad example by climbing up the fire, but as many people are unaware of what goes on behind the scenes i bet there were lots of precedures in place to make sure that nothing goes wrong and if that means someone climbing the bonfire then so be it, all the volunteers should proud of what they produced and i hope that the bonfire night can continue for many of years to come,
thanks and well done to you all
