Sutton In Craven Chavtown!
This weekend I was searching the internet, I searched for "Sutton In Craven" and found this website in the first few responses http://www.chavtowns.co.uk/2005/11/sutton-in-craven/

I just wondered how much impact this website had on villagers, visitors, potential investors, researchers, friends, family and anyone who might search for our village. Has anyone got a view on it?

I stumbled upon this same website 2 or 3 years ago and had completely forgotten about it until I just re-visited it following your post.

Is there a reason for you wanting to give this website more exposure by asking the above question? The answer to your question is a no-brainer, it will have zero impact on anyone with 2 neurones or more to rub together, its webmaster excepted........IMHO

Well said Andrew - exactly my thoughts - but no need to be humble - it had to be said.

Andrew, I appreciate your response but feel annoyed at your suggestion that I was in any way trying to support or encourage such slander. As a suttoner currently living in the village I was hoping someone might be able to give advice on how to get this rid of such ridicule which obviously reflects badly on everyone living and connected with the village.
Having spotted it yourself 2 or 3 years ago yourself, It surprises me you didn't try to do anything about it yourself.

Let me suggest this has had massive impact on the village already and will continue to do so unless it gets removed.

Also thoughts are great Brenda but I was expecting some discussion around the subject, As I thought that was what a forum was all about.

No appologies if I seem annoyed Andrew & Brenda, But I am passionate about the village I live in and this has really wound me up.

Has anyone else got any ideas of how this slander could be removed?

The problem with the internet Jason is that in most cases it is impossible to police. At the moment people can basically say what they want without any recourse, so any attempts to have this website removed from the web would be futile.

Better to simply ignore such garbage. This particular website has been around for a few years now and not one single comment has been posted on it yet, what does that tell you?

I understand your fears of this website having a negative impact on the village, but I think most people will give it the ‘grain of salt’ treatment.

Jason, if you want to have a 'go' can I suggest you refer to http://www.chavtowns.co.uk/abuselegal/
There is an email address there for what is termed as abuse - but I am not sure it would get much attention as there is also a 'disclaimer' - worth a try ?.. or take Andrew's advice. good luck and welcome to the group of passionate although 'owd' Suttoners - you live in a very special village.

P.S. maybe there are inaccuracies in the statement - e.g. - is there a Spar or Korner in Sutton, if not maybe you can have it pulled as the place described cannot therefore be Sutton - maybe it can be classed as 'abuse' of the system - ..just an idea. As I have not lived there for 50 years I dont know the places mentioned so can only suggest you look at such things if you want to take them on. The danger is, of course, that it may also draw undue attention to an item that is years old already - your call.

Hi Jason, Just seen your post and had to look! I know it looks awful but if you put in any random town the gist is the same. This is obviously some sad little person who is trying to wind people up with taking pot shots at the place they've either grown up in or have invested in for their future. I admire your passion and am personally glad I now know about it so that I can shoot it down immediately if it ever comes up in conversation!
