Postcards of 1953.
Margaret,
Thanks for placing the postcards on the Sutton website. Not a lot has changed since they were taken but I wonder if the date of the picture of Hazel Grove Road can be verified? The houses are shown with television arials. Not many of the people living around that area had T.V.s at that time. I lived just up the road in Bent Lane and in 1953 watched the Coronation on a 9inch screen in a darkened room at my Uncle and Aunt's house next door. The set had been purchased mainly because of the special event and many of the neighbours were also invited to come in and watch. I am not nitpicking but just interested knowing who lived in Hazel Grove Road at that time and doubtful that they would have invested in the pure luxury of a T.V.
We have met at the Cottingley Contact Point and had I known that you were the owner of Sutton memorabelia I would have questioned you much more.
Alan Pickles.

Hi Alan. The postmark stamped on the back looks like 1953, what looks like a 5 could possibly be a mis-printed 6. Now you mention it the arials do seem out of place, I'll magnify the postmark and see if there are any faint bits to make it a 6.

Hi Alan - yes, you're right. I've changed the year from 1953 to 1963. Well spotted!
Paul
