Broadband
Do we have a computer genius (probably aged 5!) who can help me with a broadband speed problem following an "upgrade" to fibre? Talk Talk are being spectacularly useless. |

Try here...http://www.talktalkmembers.com/.....they usually sort me out. You may have to wait a while until they get to your question, but when they do they have usually been ok. 'Phoning Talktalk is usually a waste of breath! |

if your broadband is delivered to you through the BT network the fibre cable delivers the signal only part of the way to your hub, the final leg is carried by the copper phone lines. the speed is dependant on how far away you are from the connection between the two mediums. if the copper line is more than 1000 metres you can expect to get very little benefit from the superfast broadband.
take what the salesmen tell you with a pinch of snuff, up to x meg is the one to beware of. |

Funny that, we've recently upgraded to BT Infinity Fibre, and its no quicker than our old PlusNet, just more expensive :-( |

Thanks for the comments. I seem to have solved the problem myself. When the BT fibre modem was installed it had to be plugged directly into the new BT socket - it wouldn't work over the phone extension that the router had been happy with, so I was using network-over-mains. I've now connected modem and router with a 15m RJ11 data cable and the broadband speed has trebled.
Apropos of nothing in particular Terry, why is Valley Farm so called when it is on a hill top? |
