The UK National Debt
Even though this is true I can hardly believe it. The government is BORROWING money at the rate of over £18 million per hour - over £465 million every day. Every single day!

The debt is currently over £780 billion and growing.

The "Debt Clock" above is courtesy of The Taxpayers' Alliance, which has launched a 1,300 mile tour of Britain featuring a 7 metre long, lorry-mounted digital Debt clock, ticking up as the Government borrows more and more money.

The national debt is the total amount of money the UK Government currently owes. This is different to the national deficit, which is the amount of money the UK Government spends in excess of income. Britain has been running a national deficit for the past 9 years.

If you're interested in finding out more about this, visit The Taxpayers' Alliance website.

Back in April 2010 the UK National Debt was £780 billion.

It's now over £1 trillion.
