Haigh Family History
My Gt Grandaunt Susanna Rainford who was the wife of Thomas Bailey Haigh was my Gt Grandaunt. Thomas Bailey Haigh was the Innkeeper at the Black Bull in Sutton for a period of some 20-30 years as far as I can see (last noted in the 1901 census for Sutton). They had four children that I am aware of: Joe Harry, b. 1872, Annie b. 1875, Tom b. 1877 and Edith b. 1880. After having a look at your website I note that there were some "Haighs" showing on old photographs. I would be interested in hearing from any existing Haighs in the area or anyone who knows about the Black Bull history. I have received two nice images of the Inn today which is very helpful in rounding out the history of this family. I have much more information about the "Rainford" side of the family than the Haighs and would be happy to share info. with anyone interested.

Audrey,

I have in my possession, a copy of an article on the Black Bull Inn, written for the Craven Herald in 1972 by the late Glyn Whiteoak. You might be able to get a copy by contacting the Craven Herald, but if you can't, I'll see what I can do for you. I think I could scan the relevant pages and send them on. Bailey Haigh was the landlord of the Black Bull from 1875 until 1910. There's a whole page devoted to 'Tick' books kept by Bailey, who certainly was a character. The web master will let you have my e-mail address if you want to contact me.

Thank you Denis I will try the Craven Herald as you suggest and come back to you if I don't get any results. The webmaster did contact me but the link to your email didn't work so I am pleased that you will get this message. In the meantime if you or anyone else knows of living Haighs in the district I would like to make contact with them.

Hi Audrey, Bailey Haigh was my great great grandad. My dad would know alot about where he came from and the family history. We would also be really interested in knowing anything you would know. I would be delighted to help you any way I could. Feel free to email me and my dad would love to talk to you if you wanted to give him a ring.

Hello Amy

I'm so pleased to hear from you re Bailey Haigh. Paul has sent me your email address so we can email each other. I live in New Zealand and can't remember how I found this website but I have been pleased with the information I have received so far. Where to start! Let me gather my thoughts together and I will have a look at my tree to see what information I need - perhaps you can do the same and let me know if there is any information I can help with.
