bentroyd farm
Does anyone know anything about this farm? My great great grandfather, Herbert Bracewell, owned it and subsequently died there (1922) but i can find no trace of it and just wondered if it still exists and if there is any history or photos that could help me with my research.

Many Thanks

Joanne

Jo,
Bentroyd Farm if I am not mistaken is the farm in Bent Laneon the opposite side to Holly Bank just above the bungalows and semis.
Wendy Wallbank's family lived there when I was a lad in Sutton and she still lives in Bent Lane. I cannot remember her married name but if you live in Sutton then she is easy enough to find. Two doors up from Thorn Croft.I am sure that she will help you.

Jo.
Further to the last message:- I have a photograph of the farm which was entered in the Hayfield estate sale catalogue in 1938. There are also particulars of the farm property. Ifyou wish and can find some way for me to let you have a copy then I will willingly do so.
Wendy's father would no doubt buy the farm atthat sale.

Hi Alan, I would be over the moon if you could let me have a copy of the photo and details. My email address is jowagner26@hotmail.com so if you email me then we can sort something out. I am not sure if this site lets you put the email address in the text so if not i will have to try something else!

Hello all

I am Wendy Wallbanks 'nee' Dickinson grandson, having seen the above messages I asked my grandmother about the property and she confirms that her farther bought the farm off the Hosfalls upon the break up of the estate. Prior to that she says that the Inghams held the tenancy after your ancestor but subsequently moved to the Lowfold Farm.

As to the farm itself the door lintel say the building is of 1914. Currently the house and its is land are owned by the Smith Family of Bent Farm but the farm house is used a rental property.

Hope this is of some use to you

Yours Faithfully

Hi Sam Thankyou for that information, i did wonder whether the farm was passed to other members of my family after Herbert died but your email has answered this for me so thankyou. Strangely my Grandad tells me his aunt and uncle (Laycock's) lived at Lowfold Farm too so that is a coincidence! I am hoping to visit the area sometime in the near future and so will be able to finally take a look at the farm then.

Many Thanks
Joanne
