Great War photo of Sutton serviceman found in skip
A mounted Great War photograph (it had been in a frame) was recently rescued from a skip outside a pub near Sutton Park. The photograph turned out to be that of ‘Fallen’ Sutton serviceman Sgt Edgar Green DCM, killed in action on the 16th April 1918. Sgt Green was one of only 2 men from Sutton who was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry during WW1.

The photo is currently being safeguarded as part of ‘The Men of Worth’ project at Oakworth, coordinated by Andy Wade

Can I please ask that any items of local military memorabilia be preserved for the benefit of future generations to come. If in doubt please contact either Andy Wade or myself on anything that may be related to Sutton’s military history. Thank you :-)
