Unlucky for Some
I was up bright and early this morning. I made myself a cup of coffee and sat down with the morning paper - I have a routine .......... first I attempt the cryptic crossword with varying degrees of success, then I 'do' the Obituaries and Readers letters before moving on to less intersting items referred to as 'news'. My eye was drawn this morning to page 7 which bears a headline, School Punishes Boys for Playing at Soldiers [two seven year olds!] alongside a photo of the lovely Joanna Lumley modelling a bejewelled necklace which is to be sold to save wild tigers. Immediately below, is a news item headed, Thirteen Dogs Die After Walk on 'Poison' Path. Crosshills is in the news! 13 dogs are reported dead, suspected of being poisoned, after being taken for a walk along a [now cordoned off] footpath in the village. The article does not give the location of the 'poison' footpath, but Crosshills is only a spit away from Sutton. Has the problem spread to our village?

Morning Dad,

I nearly choked on my pint when I read about this yesterday afternoon in the pub.
As you can imagine, Rosemary and I were a little concerned. A quick search on the internet says that this was Station Road, Cross Hills. Isn't that the road where Charlies Cinema was ? We didn't walk the dogs along there on our recent visit, but it made us think!

It's apparently on a path off Station Road, and yes, that's where Charlie's Cinema was.

More details on the Craven Herald website here.

I have just been watching the National News on ITV and was surprised to see the matter being reported there. Various theories are being put forward as to the cause but if someone is doing this intentionally then the sooner they are caught the better. I was talking to the Glusburn section of the family this morning and they alongwith many others are extremely concerned. It does seem that it is being confined to that particular footpath.
Welcome aboard John. Sorry that it has taken something like this to get you to join in.

Does anyone have an update on the footpath situation?
