West Riding of Yorkshire Parish Registers now online
Ancestry.co.uk has digitized over eight million records from Parish Registers in the West Riding of Yorkshire dating back to 1512.

Sutton is currently in North Yorkshire but prior to 1974 was in the West Riding.

Searches are free but you must pay a subscription to view details.

But don't hold your breath if you are hoping to find your ancestors in the records for Kildwick St Andrew's which is where most folk living in Sutton-in-Craven would have worshipped before St Thomas' was built circa 1869. The Kildwick records are NOT currently included in this recent addition to Ancestry's collections - nor are those for St Thomas' (as far as I can tell). The nearest churches which ARE listed are Steeton St Stephen, Lothersdale Christchurch, Carleton-in-Craven St Mary*, Keighley (several churches), Oakworth and Haworth.
And whilst I am on the subject, it is perhaps worth mentioning here that the 1901 Census for Sutton-in-Craven (ref RG13/4073 - i.e. the whole village) is also entirely missing from that website so if you've spent fruitless hours hunting there for Sutton ancestors in 1901 (like I did) it may well be worth trying one of the other major genealogy websites where the RG13/4073 pages are certainly available.

* Carleton-in-Craven's banns & marriage records are separately listed under the name "Carlton" and all the earlier records for that parish (1537 to 1812) have been mistakenly entitled "GARFORTH, St Mary" !!!

The registers for Kildwick & Sutton in Craven will not be on the West Yorkshire Parish Registers listings because these are now held at North Yorkshire Archives at Northallerton. The only way we may see these registers is if ancestry gets permission to do any of the registers held at Northallerton.
Also a lot of local vicars didn't give permission for there churches to be included in this project.
I gather that there will be another input of West Yorkshire registers round about the middle of September, its an ongoing project, so we will have to keep checking to see what else has been added.
