Memories of childhood
The Wizard of Oz repeated on television took me back to the time when it was shown for the first time at the Ritz in Keighley. I remember going on the number eight bus to see the film and the kids on it were singing we're off to see the wizard. The week following such was the effect on us kids I remember when the girls hostel was there Brenda Whitaker dancing up the tiled path which went up the side singing follow the yellow brick road watched by her younger brother Bruce and myself.(Sorry if I have embarrassed you Brenda)

Stanley Matthews and I went to see the last film shown at the Ritz - Enter the Dragon. The film was released in July 1973 and so the cinema must have closed down that Summer. Funny it doesn't seem like 41 years ago.

HI Alan - no I am not embarrassed, to be honest I dont remember the dancing but it sounds like the sort of thing I would do (still) - I do remember the film though - vividly. And, the Ritz, and the number 8 bus - life was a lot of fun in those days - no money to spare but a lot of fun.

Remember the days of "continuous" performances at the Ritz? Where you went in at any available point in the film? That was a bad idea if ever there was one--you could join the audience ten minutes from the end if you were unlucky! I remember queuing round the block with Pete Dawson and going in in the middle of "Ivanhoe".
