Are there any old pics of Springfield Lodge & Gordon St out there?
Hello, I’m wondering whether anyone has a photo of Springfield Lodge? There is an image in the gallery of Springfield House, but I can’t see one of the Lodge.
Also looking for an old snap of Gordon St? There is one picture is the gallery ‘Sutton Mill Dam, c1895’ showing a partly built Gordon St from across the Mill dam. There are various old snaps of Sutton’s streets in the gallery but Gordon St seems to have been given the big miss over the years – or not I’m hoping! Thanks

Also looking for an old or oldish photo of Hazel Grove if anyone can help out please.
I'm almost certain I've seen one before, but can't locate it in the gallery or in any of the Sutton books I have. Thanks all. |

hi Andrew, my maternal grandparents, Edmund & Selina Walmsley, lived at the lodge up until my grandfathers death in 1973, when my grandmother came and lived with us in Sydney, Australia. He was the Chief Engineer at Bairstows Mill and i have very fond memories of visiting the lodge as i was growing up. Unfortunately, both my mother and i have lots of memories of Springfield Lodge, where we both grew up, but NO photo's, which is a shame. I visited in 2000 and i took a couple of photo's but the place had changed so much from the home i remembered, if i find any i will post asap |

Kevin, thanks very much for sending the image of Springfield Lodge to me.
I’m not sure when your grandparents Edmund & Selina Walmsley started living at the Lodge, but during WW1 it was occupied by Mrs Dickinson & her only daughter Miss Elsie Dickinson. Elsie went on to marry Tom Hackston in June 1915 less than a month before Tom went to war together with his twin brother William in France. Tom was killed in April 1918, William survived.
